Urgent and Emergency Care
SBRI Healthcare have announced a new funding competition to develop solutions to challenges in Urgent and Emergency Care. Applications open from 15 July and close on 27 August 2020 at 1pm. Companies and individuals interested should apply via the SBRI Healthcare website.
National survey of local innovation and research needs of the NHS
The AHSN Network commissioned an independent research consultancy, ComRes, to design, implement and deliver a survey that would provide a detailed understanding of the innovation and research needs at local level and across all AHSNs, the findings of this survey were published in April 2019.
Hospify is the first clinical messaging app to be made available on the NHS Apps Library. The app provides an NHS-compliant platform for sending and receiving messages. It can be used by clinicians to share patient information.
AliveCor developed a portable ECG device to detect undiagnosed atrial fibrillation (AF). With the AHSN network the product has now been taken up across 11 AHSN areas and has contributed to the detection of 365 patients with undiagnosed AF in one year. This means that the equivalent of one stroke per day has been prevented by this work, saving lives, reducing disability, and saving almost £8.5 million for the NHS and social care service.

DASA: Biosensing across wide areas. Deadline: 1 June 2020
DASA is looking for solutions to detect and locate deposited hazardous biological agents rapidly in the field. Proposals will need to deliver a higher level of maturity than achieved in Phase 1. We expect the starting Technology Readiness Level (TRL) of the innovation to be TRL 3. By the end of the project, we expect the innovation to be sufficiently developed to achieve approximately TRL 4 – 5. £700k is available to fund Phase 2
Invention for Innovation - Challenge Awards Call 10
The RWI Challenge Award will fund investigations of medtech innovations in healthcare settings. The aim is to shorten the evidence gap between the safety/efficacy typical of a newly or nearly CE marked technology and what is required for decisions by commissioners and regulators. At the same time, this will de-risk the product for follow-on investment. The deadline for this call is on 5 June 2020
